My name is Evan LaPorte and I am a painter living in New Bedford, Ma. I am a subjective painter concerned with formal issues, however I am not concerned with accurate representation. I am focused on honest translation and the creation of images informed by my hand, my history and my observations. The artists hand, the history of mark making and the process are my primary focus when creating an image. This page is an opportunity to share my paintings and some of my inspirations.

I Swear I'm Painting

The past few weeks I have been outside in the cold scouting references and in the studio, sketching and painting. All this for an upcoming show at the New Bedford Art Museum. My submissions are due Feb. 5th, (no exceptions!). I am excited about this since it's an invitational, showcasing artists who are living, working, and exhibiting in New Bedford. The title for the show is " From Swain to Today", focusing on the current art scene here in New Bedford and how the Swain school has influenced it. The goal for the show is to become a Biennial and for the participants to become more involved in community outreach and gallery talks. I am allowed three submissions of work that were created in the past two years and since Kate at Crowell's gallery downtown has some of my favorite pieces from this time span I thought I'd get crackin on some new work! This show is juried so even with an invite there is no guarantee that I'll make it in............... so I hope to see you at the museum from March 10 – May 22, 2010.
