My name is Evan LaPorte and I am a painter living in New Bedford, Ma. I am a subjective painter concerned with formal issues, however I am not concerned with accurate representation. I am focused on honest translation and the creation of images informed by my hand, my history and my observations. The artists hand, the history of mark making and the process are my primary focus when creating an image. This page is an opportunity to share my paintings and some of my inspirations.

& so it begins....again
I have been very lucky to to find some new inspiration in the landscape. I continue to find peace and renewal outside in the air. Whether on my bike or with my family at the beach. I am still drawn to the land near the ocean. Here in New England it is our great natural resource that can humble us and give us perspective. I am intrigued and excited about the organic lines, planes and textures that can be found here in our salt marshes and tidal rivers. I am always amazed at how vibrant the colors are even when marsh grass lies flat and dry. Often I find the atmosphere startling and challenging to describe. So I have been at it working on more studies from the field and gathering new references. My studio has been needing some attention and I have some new direction. Stay tuned for more progress and inspiration as I wrestle with this new body of work.
