Colo Colo Gallery presents
“Observances: Bath Wild and Cultivated”
an exhibit of paintings and drawings by
David Baggarly
May 6th thru May 28th, 2011
Colo Colo Gallery announces the May 6th opening of the exhibit “Observances: Both Wild and Cultivated”, paintings and drawings by returning artist David Baggarly. This is Baggarly’s second solo exhibit in Colo Colo in as many years. The exhibit runs thru May 28th, 2011.
This collection of Baggarly's work is rooted in observation of the natural world, created both on the landscape and in the studio. "Nature has always been a force and a love in my life” the artist reveals, and “its impact on me has been as much a spiritual one as a visual one."
In David's work, the colors, shapes, motions, textures, and lines of the landscape, or natural objects, before him are reinterpreted and personalized. These drawings and paintings range from the subtle to the dramatic. While some imagery is suggestive of visible forms, the work remains predominantly abstract.
Born and raised in this area, David then attended and graduated the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD, in 1985. He recently returned to this area and maintains a space at the Hatch Street Studios in New Bedford's north end. David has exhibited extensively for twenty-seven years, including recent solo and group exhibits. His works are in public and private collections and he has received numerous grants.
The exhibits opening reception is on Friday night May 6th from 6-8pm. All are welcome. The gallery may be contacted by calling (508) 642-6026 or sending e-mail to colocologallery@gmail.com .
